EARTH RING TOWERS |
|
|
The concept for Earth Ring Towers was inspired by the need for a forward looking design that would bring hope and positivity out of the despair and tragedy of the events of September 11th. The accompanying sketch depicts six oval-shaped towers in an oval configuration encircling the ground-level WTC Memorial Park and supporting a ring-shaped park, at their summit, 70 stories above. Seated above the city, providing an unfettered view of the sky above and the memorial below, Earth Ring Park would appear like a giant halo over sacred ground - an honor befitting the sacrifice made by our city’s heroes.
Situated above the man-made towers, Earth Ring Park would uplift the mind and spirit with its beautiful natural setting. With springs and flowerbeds, a stream and footpath, an amphitheater and other attractions, this park in the sky would be a remarkable site, befitting the legacy of the World Trace Center. At night, with its perimeter glowing in the colors of a halo, the Earth Ring would be an inspiring and stunning sight to behold.
The Earth Ring Towers would also demonstrate the futility of terrorism by serving as a more wonderful and attractive WTC than ever. The Earth Ring could become the pride of New York City and a national as well as international symbol of unity. Earth Ring Towers would be a great magnet for tourism which would benefit the city’s economy.
The WTC Memorial Park would be situated in its own oval amphitheater between the towers. Amidst a beautiful natural setting would be two 110” high curved walls, representing the twin towers, inscribed with the names of the victims and heroes. The walls would be shaped like an open infinity symbol representing the eternity of their spirit and memory. The memorial would also be viewable from all of the towers and from the Earth Ring above. With memorials at the base and apex of the towers, the entire site would be imbued with sanctity and honor.
This depiction is just one illustration of the basic concept of a park in the sky which might serve as a platform for suggestions, designs and voting before final plans are drawn up. Please submit feedback at www.earthring.org.
